What's with all the bamboo?
Bamboo is a Chinese symbol for longevity because of its durability, strength, flexibility and resilience. In India, it is a symbol of friendship.
Bamboo combines upright integrity with accommodating flexibility; it has the perfect balance of grace and strength (Yin and Yang). It survives in the harshest conditions, and seems to endure through all the brutalities Mother Nature can dish out - still standing tall, and staying green year-round. Its flexibility and adaptability are a lesson to us all that the secret of a long happy life is to go with the flow. Its ability to cope with adversity and still stand firmly without losing ground is inspirational to anyone who has suffered difficulties in life.
The young branches at the top of the bamboo trunk will not grow at the
same angle as the older branches below, in order to allow sunlight for their
elders. When the young shoots emerge from the roots, they are under the shade of the older bamboo branches. Such a spirit reflects the young respecting the old as well as the old protecting the young.
